We recently decided to take a trip on Hull Trains, from Doncaster to London Kings Cross. Why? Well, unless you live in a cave, you’ll know it was MCM Comic Con in London last weekend!
Our ‘home’ train station of preference is York, but as there was engineering work on the line, it wasn’t an option, at least not directly. So we took a drive to Doncaster and, as I don’t really like trains in general, I treated us to First Class on Hull Trains. We’ve travelled with LNER First Class many times (you can see our review of travelling first class on LNER here) but we’ve never travelled first class on Hull Trains and were suspicious it would be little more than a different colour seat and a bag of nuts, I’m looking at you Grand Central!

Well, once we figured out where anything was at Doncaster station, we waited…….we were in coach D, half of which was First Class. Mercifully separated from the rest with a good solid door.
There are 3 seats across in First, 2 on one side, 1 on the other, we had a pair of singles facing each other across a table.

There’s plenty of luggage space, we took two small cases which happily fitted on the rack above. So I didn’t have to concern myself with making sure people weren’t stealing them for the entire trip.
Shortly after boarding we were met with a very jovial conductor checking tickets. He even admired our cosplay props on the table, we approved of him.

Shortly after – presumably after checking everyone had paid – our host (is that their title?) offered us drinks and biscuits. We had black coffee (urgh, instant) and orange juice, (no apple juice, boo!). We were also offered hot breakfast sandwiches or porridge.

We both went for the sausage sandwiches. They were jolly nice. Nice bread, properly hot, with a sachet of ketchup and HP for the weirdos. Drink refills were offered later on in the journey also.

We would be happy to choose First Class on Hull trains in future, especially as, at the time of booking it wasn’t an awful lot more than standard class.
Our return journey was over lunchtime, so rather than breakfast we had a choice of two sandwiches and a bag of crisps. Either egg and cress or ham, cream cheese and tomato.

The only downside I would say is that the First Class Lounge at Kings Cross is just for LNER first class customers.
