What Food is Included on the Independence of the Seas?

What food is included on board the Independence of the Seas from Royal Caribbean? – There are a multitude of food options on board Independence of the Seas, some are included in the cruise price and some you need to pay extra for. It’s always nice to know what is included before you go, so here is a great run down of what is included and what you have to pay a little extra for.  I’ve included lots of food photos too!

Main Dining Room – included

There is the main dining room over three floors which is open at set times for breakfast and dinner. When you book your cruise you can specify whether you would like dinner at a set time (you can choose 6pm or 8pm and keep the same table every night) or ‘my time’ dining, where you turn up when you are ready and are seated at an available table like a regular restaurant. You can also book ahead of time.  A few photos of our food in the main dining room.

Windjammer Buffet Restaurant – included

There are many places to eat on board Independence of the Seas including the main dining room, cafes, speciality dining and all you can eat buffet restaurant. We visited the buffet restaurant – The Windjammer – a number of times during our cruise. It is open the majority of the day and serves breakfast, lunch and evening meals. There is a huge amount of choice including English, American, Mexican and lots of Asian dishes. Vegetarians, vegans and Coeliacs (gluten free) are also catered for.  There is a drinks station serving fruit drinks and tea, coffee and water. There is also two soft drinks (soda) dispensers that work with the special cups you receive if you pay for the soft drinks package. These are marvellous if your children like to drink soda/pop as they can help themselves happily.

There are starters, mains, a magnificent array of desserts and cheeses at dinner, and cooked and continental dishes at breakfast.

Cafe Promenade – included

Cafe Promenade as the name suggests is on the Promenade deck, and serves light meals and snacks like sandwiches and cakes.

Sorrento’s – included

Sorrento’s is just near Cafe Promenade on the Promenade Deck, and serves freshly made (and excellent!) pizza. It’s a great late night snack destination for after the shows or kids club.

Self Serve Ice Cream Station – included

The self serve ice cream station is just next to Splashaway Bay, the new kids waterpark on the Lido deck. It’s the soft Mr Whippy style ice cream and perfect for the kids.

Which Restaurants do you need to pay extra for?

There are several fabulous looking speciality restaurants that you need to pay extra for on Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas.  These include Fish and Ships, the new fish and chips servery next to Splashaway Bay,  the new kids waterpark.  Izumi – an Asian-inspired dining experience.  Jonny Rockets – the American style diner.  Chops Grill – an American style steakhouse.  Giovannis Table – rustic Italian restaurant.
