Peter Rabbit Afternoon Tea at The Dilly, London – Review. We are lucky enough, as a family to visit London occasionally. We visited again last week and indulged in a lovely Peter Rabbit themed afternoon tea at The Dilly, a fabulously modern and stylish hotel as central as any you can get – in the heart of Piccadilly.
I loved this Dilly sign suspended in the hotel foyer. The hotel is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.
Anyway, onto afternoon tea, as I mentioned it was Peter Rabbit themed, to celebrate Peter’s 120th birthday.
It was served in ‘The Terrace at The Dilly’ which is a glass roofed restaurant at the top of the hotel and by nature is very light and airy.
All of the different elements of the afternoon tea had quirky names, like Mr McGregor’s Garden, a vegetable garden baguettini, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, radishes, pea shoots and red
pepper hummus.
Or how about Caught in a Twist – Smoked salmon with sun-dried tomato in a pinwheel.
My absolute favourite was Hill Top House – Ham and cheese sliders. These were delicious!
Before I get to the good bit (ie, the cakes!) I should also mention that there were two scones each (one plain and one raisin), served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. To celebrate 120 years of mischief, there was ‘Peter’s birthday cake chocolate cremuex, dipped in white chocolate, on top of a chocolate hazelnut base. Topped with a chocolate candle.’
I thought the cutest cake was the macaron you can see on the above picture, called the ‘Naughty Rabbit, a Peter Rabbit macaron filled with a white chocolate ganache and and lemon curd. With chocolate bunny
ears and a chocolate birthday hat’. The fluffy white tail was genius!
Another fun one was the “Flower-Pot Hideoput, an edible chocolate pot with chamomile mousse, blackberry gel, chocolate ‘mud’ and chocolate birthday balloons”. Peter himself is made from marzipan, so I gave him to the kids as I hate marzipan! I loved the chocolate mud though!
I also enjoyed ‘The Red Delicious – a light apple mousse with an apple compote centre, dipped in chocolate on a crunchy biscuit.’.
It was a lovely peaceful stop in the middle of a busy city, a perfect afternoon tea to treat fans of Peter, whether old or young!
