Dezerland Park is the biggest indoor attraction in Orlando and as such is perfect for a break from the sun (or the rain!). Have a think about the things you would like to do beforehand as the more activities you try, the better the price as you can see from the leaflet I picked up below.
Orlando Auto Museum
The Orlando Auto Museum is a car lover’s paradise that spans 250,000 square feet and houses over 2,000 vehicles.
There are fabulous iconic movie cars like the Back to the Future DeLorean and Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1.
Other favourites were the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo:
and Lightning McQueen from Cars (Ka-Chow!):
I loved the longest car in the world (watch the video too so you can see just how long it is!):
There are also themed rooms like the Bat Cave:
and James Bond:
Many countries also have their own zones including the UK. With highlights like this mural of some of the royal family (unusual!):
Not to mention Postman Pat’s van (I didn’t see Jess though!)
Food and Menus at Dezerland
After we had spent a good hour wandering around looking at the cars, we decided on a spot of lunch. There is a small food court where you can choose from pizza, burgers, hot dogs and chicken. There is even a pick and mix style serve yourself ice cream. I’ll post all the photos of the menus at the bottom of this review, so do scroll down if you want to see them. Mr. Wonders and I shared a 10″ pizza from Pizza Pie which I felt was a good price at $10.99.
We also tried ice-cream and toppings from Glida. This was priced by weight so you help yourself to ice cream and then lots of different toppings before finally weighing your pot at the till. I was a bit nervous that I might accidentally need a second mortgage (traumatic memories of Woolworth’s pick and mix!) but the ice cream and toppings I chose came in at around $6. So that was a relief!
Pinball Palace
After lunch we decided to hit the Pinball Palace. There were loads of pinball machines from over the years, from very new machines to well loved retro ones. I’ve also created a video review here:
I love pinball but I’m not that good at it and I can quickly burn through cash on them. So unlimited pinball was ideal for me! In my late teens I lived in California for a couple of years and many evenings were spent feeding quarters into the pinball machine at the local 7-Eleven. It meant that this was a real trip down memory lane for me. My teens loved it too.
In pinball Palace there are also Xbox type gaming machines and comfortable sofas but these are an extra cost (I’m not sure how much extra cost because we didn’t do this).
There was also a bar where you could buy snacks and drinks while you played.
Axe Throwing at The Brass Axe
After our stint in the Pinball Palace we wandered over to The Brass Axe for a spot of axe throwing. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried axe throwing before as the lovely staff member went through a safety talk as well as instructions on how to throw the axes.
You can choose from a variety of games to play on the handy screen at the end of the axe throwing lane. These included traditional games like Connect 4 and Noughts and Crosses (Tic Tac Toe),
to other games where you aimed to hit emojis or even zombies!
You then update the screen as you go along which keeps score for you. Some games you play as individuals and some games as a team, and you can choose. It’s a great thing to do as a family or group of friends.
While we were there, I also saw digital darts which we have played before and are great fun.
Toxic Blast
Our final activity of the day was Toxic Blast which is a bit like a Laser Quest but with guns that fire Orbeez.
If you aren’t sure what I mean by Orbeez they are basically tiny little water-filled beads. You can see the Orbeez in the top right hand corner of the photo below (I didn’t get a better picture of them!)
Safety wise you each have a face mask (which you will really appreciate once you start playing, as while the beads don’t really hurt, they do give you a good ping and we all had little pink marks all over our bodies afterwards like giant measles!)
You also each have a gun filled with a lot of water pellets. The water pellets are stored at the top of the gun in a clear container so you can see how many you have left as once everyone’s container of water pellets are finished, the game is over.
The arena is dark but full of obstacles that you can hide behind each with a neon outline so you can see where they are. There is also a den in the corner. Naturally Mr. Wonders and I targeted our 17-year-old son who took it all in good part.
It’s a perfect game for competitive families or groups of friends. I would recommend a little bit of padding on your body if possible too ward off the worst of the stings! It’s absolutely great fun though so definitely give it a go!
There is more to Dezerland too than we tried, such as the video arcade:
One of the longest indoor karting tracks in Florida:
Bowling, trampolines, laser tag, mini golf, bumper cars and cinema!
Check out the food menus below.
