There is something so eternally romantic about the idea of visiting Niagara Falls. There are many wonderful waterfalls in the world, so why are these so famous and so desirable a location to visit? I think it’s because we see them represented so often in film and in literature, it’s hard not to want to go there! There are three waterfalls in all, American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Canadian Falls, and at the highest point they are 176 feet high. I need to see Bridal Veil Falls, just for the romance of it! I’d love to visit other parts of Canada too and have heard there are lots of things to do in Regina.
Niagara Falls is one of the most popular places to propose in the world. Mr W took us to a lovely hotel in Yorkshire, paid for the best suite in the house and asked me to wander around the hotel lake before finally going down on one knee to propose, so I can hardly complain. I can see why people might choose Niagara as a place to propose though. According to Hitched Niagara comes in at number seven of the list of most popular places to propose in the world. Disneyland Paris is at number 1. I love Disney and we have been to Disney World many times, but never to Disneyland Paris which is the closest Disney park to us – which is something I think we need to rectify.
I love the sound of the ‘Maid of the Mist’ a sightseeing boat tour of the falls that dates back to 1846. You can get so very close to the falls and really feel their power. There is something so ethereal about the name ‘Maid of the Mist’ too that makes me think of Arthurian legends and mermaids! I have read that the perfect time to visit is during the Autumn when the trees are in their full fall glory and the colours are really striking. Regardless of when you go on a holiday to Niagara Falls though it is sure to be a romantic trip!
New York is a very short flight from Niagara, so you could consider combining the two. New York has so much to offer and is sheer luxury with personalised chauffeurs, butlers and rooms with maid service NYC is the place to be!
