Making the Most Out of Autumn in Yorkshire

Yorkshire is an amazing place to be when the leaves start falling off the trees and the days get shorter. From fun activities to local spots, we’re giving you some suggestions on a few things to try in autumn 2023. So, dust off your wellies and get ready for an autumnal adventure!

Seasonal Entertainment

For those of you keen horror fans stuck inside due to the unpredictable autumn weather, why not prepare your favorite snacks and invite some friends over for a cozy evening? There are some promising horror films set to stream soon. For example, There’s Totally Killer streaming on Amazon Prime on October 6th, starring Kiernan Shipka and Olivia Holt. Alternatively, Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the video game of the same name, is being released on Peacock on October 27th. And, if you didn’t catch it on the big screen this summer, The Haunted Mansion will likely be streaming on Disney+ in October.

If you can’t access some of these streaming platforms or find that the blockbuster film you want isn’t available in your region, don’t worry. You can always use a product like ExpressVPN to help you bypass these geo-restrictions and stream this year’s horror films. A VPN service is a secure tunnel connecting your device to the internet that shields you from any location-based censorship. So, for instance, even if you’re not in America, you can still watch Peacock from the UK.

Alternatively, if you’re a fan of venturing out and about, we’d highly recommend booking tickets for an outdoor cinema experience at Castle Howard in York. They’re set to screen Hocus Pocus in all its glory this Halloween but have plenty of other offerings available throughout the months, too!

Exploring the Great Outdoors

Our first recommendation for people looking to venture out to the north this autumn is to visit the Yorkshire Dales, a stunning national park filled with valleys, moors, and cliffs. Make sure to hit the Wensleydale Creamery while you’re there for a cheesy afternoon and the Bolton Abbey Pumpkin Trail for the most typical autumn activities – picking, carving, and painting!

Whitby Abbey is another great option, and it will be illuminated from September 21st through October 31st. Did you know its gothic ruins served as the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula?

Another unmissable stop in Yorkshire would be the No Bounds festival in Sheffield – unfortunately, as announced by BBC, it was canceled this year, but it will hopefully return in 2024.

F&B: Bringing the Autumn Spirit Home

When it comes to food, autumn’s cozy vibes just go well with at-home cooking. It won’t be long before tomato soup recipes start flooding our social media feeds, and we can’t wait. Why not take a trip to your local farmers market and bring home some autumn seasonal veggies, like blackberries, celery, leek, butternut squash, cauliflower, kale, parsnip, or turnip?

And it wouldn’t be autumn without the PSL season at Starbucks. This BuzzFeed guide tells you all about this year’s new drinks: the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Latte, the Apple Crisp Oat Milk Shaken Espresso, and the new Baked Apple Croissant. You can find all of these at any Yorkshire Starbucks you pass on your trips this year.
