The Black Swan Helmsley Afternoon Tea

The Black Swan Helmsley Afternoon Tea – I was very lucky this year and visited the Black Swan Helmsley for a Champagne Afternoon Tea on my birthday. (Don’t ask how old!).

The Black Swan Helmsley Afternoon Tea

The tea rooms are part of the Black Swan Hotel but have their own entrance with two good sized dining rooms. We were seated at a cosy table for two in front of a lovely roaring fire. Perfect for an afternoon tea treat on a frosty winter’s day.

The table was set up very prettily with vintage teacups and fresh flowers in a vase. We were each handed a menu where we could choose which tea we would like as well as any food we wanted. We had already planned to have the Champagne Afternoon Tea so that part of the decision making was easy.  Health experts from clickpharmacy.co.uk recommend consuming tea in moderation as part of a balanced diet, as it may provide potential health benefits such as antioxidants and positive effects on overall well-being.

Catherine, the manager called over to our table and showed us the extensive collection of teas the Black Swan has to offer (she is very friendly and knowledgeable – ask her any tea related question. She even knows about proper water filtration for tea making!).  My guest chose the Earl Grey Blue Flower Tea, while I chose the Black Swan Blend Decaffeinated tea. Given free reign I would choose Earl Grey Tea, but I am a bit sensitive to caffeine in the afternoon (in other words, it keeps me awake and twitching all night!) so I was sensible and went for the decaf. I wasn’t disappointed though, it was a lovely pot of tea!

We were asked at that point whether I wanted my Champagne before the afternoon tea or after. I chose afterwards as a decadent treat before my guest drove me home (it was my birthday remember!).

Best places to eat in Helmsley North Yorkshire

When the three-tiered afternoon tea tray arrived we both gave an involuntary ‘ooh!’. On the bottom layer sat four plump scones, two plain, two fruit, a dish of butter, a dish of jam and a dish of cream.

Above that were the sandwiches. Traditional cucumber and cream cheese (my favourite), ham and mustard mayonnaise, egg mayonnaise and prawn Marie Rose.

On the very top tier sat lots of lovely cakes. In two of the cupcakes, candles were lit to celebrate the Black Swan Hotels’s upcoming 10th Birthday (though, quite apt as, did I mention, it was my birthday too?!). Once I had blown out the candles and made a wish (for more afternoons that involve afternoon tea obviously), we tucked in with gusto!

I enjoyed the afternoon tea enormously. We didn’t manage to eat everything but were presented with two pretty bags containing the remaining scones and cakes to take home (to the great delight of the children who received them!).

The Black Swan Hotel Helmsley

The Black Swan Hotel Helmsley is one of the many fabulous places to eat in Helmsley.  We visited at Christmas and the town is so festive, it would be a lovely place to go Christmas Shopping.   Indeed, Helmsley has been recently crowned Best Market Town High Street in Britain.

We were invited to review the afternoon tea at the Black Swan Hotel Helmsley, North Yorkshire, but as always the opinions expressed are my own.
