A Blissful Morning at The Grand Hotel York Spa

The Grand Hotel York Spa – I do love a spa day and was pleased to be able to review the spa facilities at The Grand in York recently as part of a Spa Afternoon Tea. At just £40.50 for a session in the Spa followed by a Grand Afternoon Tea, I think this is a brilliant deal and perfect for a get-together.

The Grand Hotel York Spa

The Spa in The Grand is downstairs in the historic basement. Have a look at the doors as you make your way through, they are hugely thick as this was the vaults where millions of pounds was kept when the building was the headquarters for the North Eastern Railway Company.

The Spa itself consists of a good sized pool and large jacuzzi. There is also a sauna and a steam room, with a very cold drenching shower in between!

The decor is classic with blue lighting that makes the pool look so enticing! The pool temperature was very pleasant too.

We visited on a Monday morning and it was fairly quiet, giving us plenty of space to do our own thing without hogging the jacuzzi! There is also a very nice relaxation room where I would have liked to while away half an hour with a magazine but we were too busy chatting and catching up on everyone’s news!

There are treatment rooms as well as nail bars in The Grand, offering some lovely treatments including facials, body wraps and holistic massages, as well as the usual beauty treatments like manicures and pedicures.

Too soon our time in the Spa came to an end. I just wanted to give you a quick overview of the changing rooms as I know the sort of things I like to know ahead of time. There is a communal changing area as well as three private changing rooms complete with a shower and Espa products in each. There are plenty of mirrors in the main area and two seats with hairdryers to do your hair and makeup as well as a pair of hair straighteners. You are given a towel, robe and slippers as well as a dedicated locker (no need to be remembering a pound for it!).

The Spa at The Grand is lovely. The hotel itself is in a brilliant location just near to York Station, so very easy to get to on public transport. If you are driving, I would recommend the excellent York Park and Ride, rather than parking in York, although there is local parking available. Definitely try the Grand Afternoon Tea afterwards – it’s a lovely and relaxed decadent treat.

The Grand, York invited us to visit and review the spa facilities.  As always, all opinions expressed are my own.

  1. I love York, we visit all the time as it is only an hour on the train. This sounds like the perfect way to relax, it is great value too. I might suggest this to my friends for my upcoming hen party x

    • I think it’s brilliant value. Have a look at the second half of the post I published last night (the afternoon tea!) x
