Snowdrop Walks at Kiplin Hall in North Yorkshire

Snowdrop Walks in yorkshire

We visited Kiplin Hall recently to see the last of the snowdrops of the year. I had never been before but had seen it on the Yorkshire’s Great House, Castles and Gardens website and knew it was celebrating its 400 year anniversary this year so thought it was a perfect opportunity for a day out.

When you first enter Kiplin Hall, take some time reading the exhibition boards in the hallway.  They tell you all about the four families who have lived there since 1625, the Calverts, Crowes, Carpenters, and Talbots.

The house itself is staffed by lovely volunteers who take great pleasure in telling you about each room and the people that inhabited them, really bringing their stories to life.

At the top of the house there is a room set up perfectly to entertain children with a storybook corner, playhouse and art stations.

What especially appealed to me though were the grounds that were even beautiful in early March. You can pick up a map of the grounds that take you on a walk around to see the best views of the snowdrops.

There is a lovely little playground perfect for younger children where you can sit and watch (or picnic in warmer months) while they play.

As part of their 400 years celebration, this year they have opened a new cafe where teas, coffees and afternoon tea are served. This was very popular on the day we visited and the tables were full. It is worth knowing that you don’t need to pay to enter the house and grounds in order to visit the cafe. Though, it would be a shame to visit and not explore the beautiful grounds!

I have included some photographs of the menus so you can get an idea of what is available as well as prices.

There is also a small gift shop at the entrance/exit (make the kids take their own pocket money).  Dogs are welcome in the grounds if they are on a lead.
