The Olive Tree

The Olive Tree has a great location with a fantastic view of Clifford’s Tower. The menu is centred on seasonal ingredients drawing inspiration from the South of France, Italy, and the Mediterranean. Locally sourced game, lamb, and beef from Yorkshire.
The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and is popular with celebrities visiting the Barbican Centre (and is a good choice to pair with a show there or at The Grand Opera House).
Lucia – Italian York

I have eaten in Delrio’s many times in the past, it has a lovely ambience. Described as ‘The little Italian restaurant down the stairs by Micklegate’ this perfectly sums it up. Nice independent long standing Italian restaurant in York. Fab Sardinian restaurant York.
Il Paradiso del Cibo, Italian Restaurant Walmgate York

Il Paradiso del Cibo is another restaurant in York I haven’t tried yet but comes recommended by a local family. In her words, “little friendly Italian, amazing food, and they love children, one of the best Italian restaurants in York”. The menu looks fab too. Walmgate and Fossgate have lots of great restaurants.

La Vecchia Scuola, York

La Vecchia Scuola is a fine dining Italian restaurant in a beautiful historic building in the centre of York. A bit of history from the website: If La Vecchia Scuola’s walls could talk they would have incredible tales to tell! That’s because our opulent restaurant is set in a 300-year-old building with a dynamic and colourful history.
Before it became La Vecchia Scuola, 62 Low Petergate was the address of York College for Girls; before that it was a doctor’s residence; and before that it was the house of a lawyer who worked for the Church of England. And going right back to Roman times, a fortress stood on this very spot!
