Best Places to eat Sunday Lunch in Yorkshire – I love a good Sunday dinner, roast beef, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. Or roast pork, crackling and apple sauce, completely delicious! In our house all Sunday dinners come with Yorkshire puddings though, I don’t hold with this idea that you only get Yorkshires with beef – no, no, no!
Anyway, to that end I decided to write a post on the best places to eat Sunday lunch in Yorkshire. I also write the site ‘Best Things to do in York‘ which reviews places in York and around, and many of our Sunday Lunch reviews can be found on there.
The Stone Trough Inn
Kirkham Abbey, York YO60 7JS
The Stone Trough Inn at Kirkham Abbey is a country pub around 15 miles from York on the A64 towards Malton. It’s a large, traditional cosy pub surrounded by some beautiful countryside. It has a large beer garden with some stunning views. They serve an excellent Sunday dinner!
“Nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty, overlooking Kirkham Abbey. Our wonderful pub has kept its original charm with its open fires places & exposed stone walls. We have grown a reputation for delivering freshly cooked, locally sourced food, alongside a superb range of Yorkshire beers and ales, all delivered with a warm welcome.”

Tomahawk Steakhouse in York
Lendal Cellars, 26 Lendal, York YO1 8AA
Tomahawk Steakhouse is a fabulous restaurant with an extensive menu. It’s situated in the corner of St Helen’s Square, next to The Mansion House down the walkway that leads to Lendal Cellars, with a cute little courtyard space in front.
Sunday Lunch consists of Roast beef ‘wagyu’ topside as well as a chicken or belly pork option. Or why not go all-in and have a selection of all three in their sharing board? All cuts of meat served with pork & herb stuffing, beef dripping roasties, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage plus seasonal vegetables & 24hr red wine gravy.
We have visited Tomahawk for regular and Sunday lunch if you’d like to read our Tomahawk review. We have not reviewed Sunday Lunch as yet – but below is a picture of the table when we did visit!
Tykes Restaurant
Sandburn Hall, Flaxton YO60 7RB
Tykes is around 7 miles from York city centre on the A64 toward Malton. We tried their roast beef Sunday lunch recently. They serve large portions of well cooked food in a comfortable restaurant.
See our review of Sunday lunch at Tykes here.
Impossible York
3 St. Helen’s Square, York YO1 8QN
Impossible York is housed in the beautiful building that what was originally Terry’s Chocolate shop in St Helen’s Square. They do an excellent Sunday Roast, we were really impressed by it and would recommend it. You can choose from Roast Beef Rump, Roast Belly Pork or Glazed Celeriac.

The Judge’s Lodging
9 Lendal, York YO1 8AQ
The Judge’s Lodging has a great position in the centre of York, with a beautiful courtyard bar, where you can sit and watch the world go by. They have some gorgeous, relaxed dining rooms within the hotel where they serve Sunday Lunch.
“Rich in detail and history, our rooms offer comfortable and stylish relaxation. Bespoke furniture and a mix of fabrics, we’ve filled our rooms with characterful details. From cosy doubles to our grand feature rooms, all have beds that have been hand-selected for quality and comfort. Whether a short or long break, rest in comfort and fall in love with your own private haven.”
