Cobra CS35040VX Cordless Chainsaw Review

Cobra CS35040VX Cordless Chainsaw Review – I don’t use a chainsaw day in/out, as a tree surgeon will probably tell you from my videos! But I do like to chop stuff, be that logs for my fire or just a spot of pruning.  I have put a video together here.

We recently reviewed a small Cobra chainsaw, you can see that review here, but I needed something bigger to chop up larger logs such as the cherry in the photos, which was previously felled by an actual tree surgeon. I’ve had a corded chainsaw for years, but the last time I used it, it stopped stopping. Picture me with a running chainsaw in one hand, trying to unplug it from an extension lead with the other! Immediate retirement for that before it retired me!

So, onto the point, the Cobra CS35040VX chainsaw. It’s got a brushless 40V motor and a 14″ bar. We also have an older Cobra 40v mower (review here), and it’s worth noting the batteries are different.

It arrived with just a very small amount of assembly. It took me just two minutes to attach the chain (once I had it the right way round!) and the bar. This was attached with a large hand tightened nut, and tensioned with a further hand tightened nut. So genuinely tool-less chain tension, which is great. Other that that, you just need to charge the battery and fill the reservoir with bar/chain oil.

It has a chain brake, which all chainsaws should have and a two-stage on switch, so unless you are foolish, you can’t accidentally start it. It does feel nicely positioned though, so it’s easy to use when you are ready.

The battery can go in either facing forward or backward. I’m not entirely sure why this is but it changes the balance of it, so pick whichever suits.

It is equipped with a soft start so doesn’t start with a jolt. It genuinely flew through this large cherry stump and trunk, at its thickest between 20-24″ diameter. I was very impressed. I was also impressed with how quiet it was.

I am completely converted to cordless garden tools. It’s so easy just to pick up and get started. No faffing with an extension lead or driving to the garage for petrol.

As a guide to battery life, the pile on the trolley and the two on the ground were from one charge. Thick and quite knotty in parts.

Overall, I’m really pleased with this as an addition to our garden power tool selection.  I’ve included a few more pictures:
