Cobra CS1024V 24v Li-ion Cordless Chainsaw Review

I’ve been in need of a new chainsaw (shush Mrs Wonders!).  I’ve got various, none of which are great.  I was looking to replace a slightly dangerous small chainsaw that came from a popular online auction site, mainly because it is bereft of any safety features!

This Cobra CS1024V 24v Li-ion cordless chainsaw is supplied with a 2Ah battery and charger and has a 250mm/10” blade.

It needs a bit of minor assembly as most chainsaws do on delivery.  The bar and chain need attaching.  This is where we get to test one of Cobras selling points, the tool-less chain tensioner.  The chain guard is unscrewed by hand with the red ring, then the bar/chain put back on.  Once nearly tight, the tension can be adjusted by turning the black ring behind and finally tightening the red screw fully.  This is great as it saves me finding the spanner I put down somewhere last time I used it!  Chainsaws do need to be adjusted to keep the chain just right, and this removes your bad excuse for not doing this.

You’ll need to fill up the reservoir with chain oil, not supplied, then off you go.

There’s an initial button to turn power on, and then a thumb button to press before the trigger. It’s got a chain brake which is great to see and it’s something you should be in the habit of using routinely, not just as an emergency stop if you’ve been careless!  Use 2 hands, wear sensible shoes, gloves and a hat (neither woolly) at least.  I won’t go into a safety briefing, there’s plenty of chainsaw geeks far more qualified than me who will assist with this if needed!

There’s a handy power level indicator on top so you know when it’s coffee time, always welcome.

It proved itself quite capable of light pruning of these conifer and cherry tree branches.  Then also chopping the ends of some rotten fence posts.  I’m too tight to throw them away, they can make a shorter fence one day.

In a bit of bad timing I’d previously chopped up a load of smaller logs for our store so didn’t have a nice pile to go at.  But it certainly seems capable of chopping smaller sections for firewood and I’ve no doubt it’ll end up chopping some inappropriately large ones too!

All in all, I’m very happy with it as a lightweight and convenient option for pruning and firewood chopping.
