We recently took a canal boat holiday on the Leeds Liverpool canal. (You can read the full review here) We started at Barnoldswick and spent one night moored in Foulridge outside the lovely Cafe Cargo. It hadn’t really been on our radar before as I was looking for canal side pubs for overnight stops but I had read some good things about it so we included it in our itinerary. I am so glad we did! It’s in a lovely, airy building with comfortable furnishings and amazing views of the canal.
Cafe Cargo Foulridge – Menu
Food is served from 9.30am until 7.30pm on a weekend, and you can view the menu online here. They do very reasonably priced breakfasts that are served all day. In fact, the day after our evening meal we returned for lunch as we enjoyed it so much! As well as the regular menu there were boards advertising their specials. (and as you can see, they have free wi-fi!)
For our evening meal I ordered the Cafe Cargo rarebit (if you want to make it yourself, have a look at this Welsh Rarebit recipe!). I was told this was a popular choice and I can see why. It was delicious and filling and extremely reasonably priced at £7.20.
Mr Wonders went for a hot baguette with bacon, brie and cranberry. You can see how good it was.
Master T chose the homemade Cafe Cargo burger and was very happy with his decision!
While Miss H chose tomato pasta from the kids menu with a cheesy garlic bread. She enjoyed it that much she chose it again for lunch the following day.
The young woman serving us was very friendly and chatted to us about the area, and really made us feel welcome and at home.
There is also some seating outside which proved very popular with cyclists and dog walkers, and was just a lovely place to sit and admire the canal. It’s definitely worth a visit whether you are on the canal or just in the area. We would certainly return (and would order the rarebit again too!).
Cafe Cargo invited us to dine and review the restaurant. All opinions expressed are my own.
