Restaurants in York and great places to eat – York is an amazing place to live and visit and we have some wonderful restaurants in which to eat. There are so many different places to eat in York, it’s been hard compiling this list. But, I have based it on the local pubs and restaurants I love to visit and places that have been recommended as the best places to eat in York by my local friends.
Fancy Hanks
American Deep South Feel Good Food – with buttermilk chicken, ribs and burgers, cocktails and milkshakes, we love it at Fancy Hanks! Reasonable prices and a good vibrant atmosphere.

Rustique York, Castlegate
Rustique has long been a York favourite, and was so popular that a second Rustique restaurant was opened on Lendal. “Rustique specialises in rustic French cooking in a busy, vibrant upbeat Bistro atmosphere. Offering a large and varied selection of traditionally cooked, locally sourced meat and fish dishes, we pride ourselves on giving our customers a first class, French-inspired dining experience.” Make sure you check out the set menu as it’s excellent value at £15.95 for two courses (£18.95 for three).

Nestled between York Minster and Monk Bar “Little Italy” was established by owners Andrea & Mandy Gaias in January 1992, and as a result of endless dedication have built up an enviable reputation as one of York’s finest Italian restaurants offering gourmet cuisine to satisfy the most discerning tastes. I have been to Delrios many time and have always enjoyed it. Lovely intimate surroundings. “Enjoy candle-lit dining in this atmospheric cellar restaurant located adjacent to the historic Micklegate Bar and just a few minutes walk from York railway station. Delrio’s Restaurant offers home-cooked Italian food with a strong Sardinian influence in a lively environment.”
Melton’s York, Scarcroft Road
“Melton’s is a fine dining restaurant serving modern British food and it is Michael’s position as Chef Proprietor, which has made it one of York’s leading restaurants. Melton’s is featured in all the major food guides and has a rating of five in the Good Food Guide. Melton’s is renowned for serving high quality food in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.”

Where to eat in York?
