A Long Weekend with Friends in London

This year is a big birthday for my friends and me.  This year, we all turn 50.  I know, I know, I can’t believe it myself!  We’ve known each other since school and have been best friends ever since, and of course all our big birthdays are in the same year.  We went to London for the day for our 40th birthdays, it was at Christmas time and we shopped till we dropped, topping it off with afternoon tea in Harrods.

I have to say that our 40th birthdays don’t seem that long ago.  At the time I insisted that we each put a small amount away every month and then on our 50th we would really splash out and do New York or Vegas.  Guess what, that didn’t happen!  So here we are, planning another trip to London!  We are taking my friend’s car as it’s the most comfortable for the four of us (as well as lots of luggage!).  She does not want to do all the driving, so I have said I will share it if we can sort out some cheap short term insurance for the trip.

I am hoping to do lots of glamorous things on this trip.  I’d like to have cocktails at the top of The Shard, try out a bottomless brunch or maybe an afternoon tea like this one we reviewed at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate.  There are several new West End shows that I’d be keen to see.  I want to see the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of Cinderella, and on a similar theme I’d like to see Pretty Woman.  I’d also like to see Back to the Future.  The last show I saw in the West End was the incredible Wicked.

No trip to London is complete without some retail therapy and of course we’ll hit Oxford Street and perhaps Covent Garden.  I am more of a bargain girl and the big Primark on Oxford Street us amazing!  I have bought lots of clothes for the kids from there in the past.
