York Family Hotels – 5 Great Family Friendly Hotels York – York is a fabulous place to visit with kids as we have so many fun things to do and see. Have a look at this list of great things to do in York with kids for some fab ideas. York makes a great place for family breaks all year round, and it’s particularly festive at Christmas. We’ve got some great family friendly restaurants you can visit too while you are here.
Doubletree by Hilton, York
St Maurice’s Road, York
I’ve visited the Doubletree by Hilton for their cracking Yorkshire Picnic Afternoon Tea and was really impressed by the decor in the public areas. They were amazingly child friendly during our afternoon tea and reviews I have read say they are great for a family stay. Their main web page is part of the Hilton website, but I think you get a better feel of who they are on their Facebook page here.
The Grand Hotel, York
Station Rise, York
Looking for York family hotels with a pool? The Grand Hotel York is York’s only five star hotel and it is beautiful inside. They have a swimming pool and spa which is fab to come back to at the end of a long day sightseeing – though I do think you need to book a stay and spa package in order to use the pool. If you fancy a bit of elegance you can opt for the Grand Afternoon Tea, and the kids can have their own Kids Afternoon Tea! It’s very central and if you climb the bar walls opposite you get a marvellous view of York Minster.
I have reviewed the spa at The Grand, York here.

The Principal Hotel, York
Station Road, York
The Principal Hotel is a very plush hotel right next to York Station and an ideal place to stay if you are coming by train. Recently refurbished, the public rooms are lavish and elegant. I visited recently for a Twilight Afternoon Tea.

Premier Inn York
Blossom Street, York
If you are looking for more budget family friendly hotels in York, you could do a lot worse than a stay at the Premier Inn in Blossom Street. We have stayed at many Premier Inns over the years and you know where you are with them. Every room is a family room. They may not have the wow factor of The Grand or The Principal but they are clean and modern. Opposite you will find The Punch Bowl a Wetherspoons pub and just a few steps away the Everyman Cinema. (It’s a lovely one to visit as it’s housed in a grade II listed building that was the Odeon when I was growing up). Definitely one of the cheaper child friendly hotels in York.
MIDDLETONS YORK
Skeldergate, York
Located on Skeldergate in the centre of York this would be a great hotel to stay with the children. A very easy walk to all the York attractions but not on the noisiest street. Several of their rooms will cater for children and they get good reviews for their family friendly nature on TripAdvisor.
