Sam Olgar Hairdressers in York – This week we are heading down to Southampton for a cruise of the British Isles. Of course, I needed to smarten myself up a bit (ok, a lot!), so I headed into Sam Olgar’s Hairdressing salon in the centre of York for a good cut, highlights and a bit of pampering. To begin with, I was seated in a comfortable chair and my needs were discussed (I wanted a good trim and reshape as well as highlights). I was also brought coffee and magazines as the highlight foils were (very) swiftly put in place.
I had a nice relax while the colour took, before being shown to the hair washing chair. There, the foils were taken out, my hair was washed and a hair masque applied. Had a lovely chat with the person washing my hair on the merits of the best afternoon teas and bottomless brunches in the area (one of my favourite subjects!).
Once back in front of the mirror, my hair was expertly cut – I really felt I was in safe hands and had my needs listened to. Soon my hair was dried and styled. I loved the final result and even managed to take some lovely products home.
It’s a gorgeous salon with lots of thoughtful details like these divine lilies.

If you are a middle aged mum like me though, please don’t feel intimidated, I didn’t feel out of place, there were plenty of people like me there too (alongside the gorgeous young things).
I saw an article in The York Press recently that lots of famous people visit Sam’s salon, so I was in good company! I enjoyed my visit and would definitely recommend Sam and the team.
