Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol

8 December 2022 – 8 January 2023

Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London SE1 8XX

This Christmas, experience the classic Dickens’ tale with a Tennessee twist in an all-new musical Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol. Featuring an original score written by Dolly Parton, join us for a limited festive season at London’s Southbank Centre from this December.

Set during the 1930s in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, this heart-warming and truly unforgettable production imagines Ebenezer Scrooge as the owner of a mining company town, where his callous greed blinds him to the joys and gifts of the season.

As a Christmas Eve snowstorm approaches, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts who compel him to see life anew and discover that love is the greatest and most precious gift we have. Dickens’ classic characters and Dolly Parton’s one-of-a-kind song writing and storytelling expertise are certain to make this the most joyful Christmas event.

Christmas at Kew Gardens, London

Selected dates, 16 November 2022 to 8 January 2023

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as our sparkling after dark trail returns to light up Kew Gardens.  The winter trail takes a magical new route and includes a host of all-new installations.

Framed by glittering spiral trees, dynamic laser projections will illuminate the iconic Temperate House.  A dazzling arch leads to a cascade of glowing silvery shards at the Treetop Walkway. Walk amongst immersive vines as they surprise with changing ribbons of light, and wander beneath the branches where mysterious fairy-fire known as Will-o’the Wisp softly glows.

Journey through the mesmerising flickering flames in the Fire Garden, spot larger-than-life illuminations and say hello to Father Christmas along the way.

Lapland UK

Whitmoor Forest, Swinley Rd, Winkfield Row, Ascot SL5 8BD

Not in central London, but not too far away.  We visited Lapland UK a couple of years ago and it was amazing – expensive, but amazing!  There is a lovely festive play to start the proceeding and then you go through a series of workshops – all beautifully themed, before arriving in the Christmas village where you can eat, drink and be merry and take the children ice skating.

The most marvellous thing about Lapland UK though is Father Christmas himself, he knows so much about the children they can’t fail to believe!
