Trying out Chalk Mineral Paint from Dixie Belle (ad)

Our fire surround has needed painting for quite a long time. Every time the sweep comes to sweep our chimney. He always manages to pull a bit of the paint off the surround with his dust sheet. So, when I got a chance to try out the chalk mineral paint from Dixie Belle, I jumped at the chance, knowing that this would make me actually do it!

You can see what the old fire surround looked like when I started:

The surround is a bit grimy as this is a coal fire, and sometimes ashy hands touch it!

I chose the colour sea glass which is lighter than the previous dark grey that the fire surround was painted, as I wanted to mark the contrast.  I am also planning to re-wallpaper the wall behind the fire surround with a dark wallpaper (in blues and greens) and I felt that a light colour on the fire surround would make it stand out more.

The paint went on really easily and gave good coverage. It needed two coats in the end for a really solid colour with a very matte finish which was perfect for our fire surround.

I’ve decorated it with golden pumpkins to celebrate Autumn, although admittedly it is a little early as yet for Halloween, but when has that ever stopped me?  You can see more close up photos below.

We were invited to try out the paint from Dixie Belle, as always all opinions are my own.
