If you’re holidaying in Orlando and fancy giving your feet a break from the parks, we’ve found just the ticket – the fabulous and fantastically quirky Museum of Illusions at ICON Park. It’s an indoor, air-conditioned treasure trove of optical trickery that had all of us laughing and snapping a ridiculous number of photos! We have made a video here:

Tucked right in the heart of ICON Park (just a stone’s throw from SEA LIFE and Madame Tussauds – follow the links to our reviews of those!), the Museum of Illusions doesn’t look massive from the outside – but it packs in a ton of clever fun.

The museum is a maze of rooms, each with its own mind-boggling illusion. I particularly liked this ‘head on a plate’ illusion (though it took some time to get Mr W to understand the right way to take the photo to make it work!).

We had an absolute hoot trying to line up the perfect trick shots (some of us were better at this than others…!). I loved this kaleidoscope effect on Mr W’s face!

Talking about kaleidoscope effects, there is even a room to go in for this. Also have a look at the video above for a brilliant 360 effect in this room.
You’ll come away wondering how your eyes can lie to you so convincingly – and how on earth that slanted room photo turned out so perfect!

Handy Tips for Visiting
-
Don’t rush – You’ll want at least an hour to play around and get your photos just right.
-
Bring a charged phone – Trust me, the camera roll’s going to fill up fast!
-
Wear something comfy – You might find yourself lying on the floor, leaning backwards, or crouching in strange positions for the perfect pic.
-
Book ahead – It can get busy, especially in the afternoons and weekends. Booking online guarantees your slot and saves a bit of faff.
Loved this one of Mr W and our eldest (who is much taller than Mr W these days!):

The Museum of Illusions Orlando is great fun. It’s clever, creative, and completely different to anything else in Orlando. Whether you’re dodging a rainy day (pretty much every day when we were there in August) or just looking for something a bit different to entertain the kids (and yourselves), it’s a brilliant way to spend an hour or two.
Perfect for photos that are a bit different to the norm, but that you will love!
