Harper High Sleeper Bed from Cuckooland – Review

Having been nagged mercilessly for what seems like 27 years, we relented and got our youngest a new bed. To be fair, they struggle with storage space, so we are hoping this Harper high sleeper bed from Cuckooland will help keep things sorted.

I shall have a little waffle about delivery/assembly to start with. We received various texts with delivery day, then a call from the driver when we were the next stop. They then carried four huge boxes into our lounge and took photos to prove delivery.

I say huge, they were, and also very heavy. Top tip, if you’re feeling weak, you should open the boxes downstairs and carry parts up separately. Stupidly, I thought of this after I’d already hauled the boxes upstairs. It’s certainly not a lightweight piece of furniture! As always, all incoming parcels are thoroughly inspected by our cats.

The sight of the huge bag of fixings is a little intimidating. I’ve put together a lot of flat pack furniture and I would still say set aside a whole day for this. Especially if you are doing it by yourself (which is probably ill advised!).

That said, each component was well labelled, both the wooden parts and bags of specific fixings. The instructions were also mercifully clear and written/annotated well.

You would be well advised to clear as much surplus furniture out of the room before starting. We had just half the floor space available and it really wasn’t enough.  It’s a tiny bedroom with a LOT of teenage clutter in it!

I’d say the assembly is straightforward, and well designed, but there is a lot of it: the end result is very satisfying though. It really does feel substantial, safe and solidly put together. Yes, I have been up on the bed as a sacrificial offering. No, it didn’t collapse. Far from it, felt good and solid, which will be welcome for when the time comes to washing sheets and remaking the bed!

It’s spacious under the bed.  The desk area feels nice and roomy, with plenty of space for a PC, phone chargers, and assorted other teenage stuff!

There’s also three drawers – does anyone else keep seeing people selling “Chester Drawers” on FB marketplace?  Makes me snigger in judgement.   I’d like to think you can fit a decent amount of stationery in, but more likely they’ll get used as makeshift bins!

On the other side, a really decent size wardrobe, a lower shelf for storage, and a vertical line of cubes for storage or display.

Overall, we are really pleased with it. It’s enabled us to get rid of a separate hanging rail and PC desk, so given us more space in the room, which is great.

We were sent the bed for the purpose of this review.  As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
