Framing Our Door With a Pair of Standard Olive Trees

I recently received a pair of standard olive trees from Trees2mydoor.com and was thrilled when they arrived. They arrived promptly and were extremely well-packaged, with no damage in transit. They were healthy, strong, and exactly as described on the website—tall, well-shaped, and full of silvery-green foliage. I was planning to buy new matching pots for them to go on either side of our back door, but instead thought they would look good in our old chimney pots (they do!). They bring a lovely summery Mediterranean feel to the space.

We’re currently getting the garden ready for a summer barbecue, and these olive trees have added a real touch of elegance and charm. They frame the door beautifully and are already drawing compliments from visitors. The overall effect is smart but relaxed, and they make a perfect focal point as we spruce up the space for outdoor entertaining.

Looking after the olive trees seems to be quite straightforward. They prefer a sunny, sheltered position, so we made sure to place them somewhere they’ll get plenty of light throughout the day. I’ve been watering them sparingly—olive trees don’t like sitting in soggy soil—and making sure the pots have good drainage.

They’re quite hardy, but I plan to bring them into the house or cover them if we get a particularly harsh frost in winter. A bit of light pruning now and then should help them maintain their tidy, rounded shape.

Overall, I’m delighted with both the trees. They’ve made a big impact in our garden already, and I’m looking forward to enjoying them for years to come.

We were sent the olive trees for the purposes of this review.  As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
