There are some hotel stays that are just a little bit special, and our trip to The Midland Hotel in Manchester was definitely one of those. This time I was accompanied by my youngest teenager, and we were heading to Manchester for a Comic Con. Obviously, any excuse for a bit of dressing up, fandom and general geekiness is a good one in our house!
We decided to make a proper trip of it and booked ourselves a stay at The Midland, which is rather a grand old dame of a hotel. And when I say grand, I really do mean grand! Mrs Wonders was very envious as I know she wants to visit their spa!
First Impressions
The Midland Hotel is one of Manchester’s most iconic hotels, and you certainly know you’ve arrived somewhere special as you approach the building. It has that lovely sense of occasion about it, with its impressive architecture and beautiful interiors.
There is something rather lovely about stepping into a hotel that has a bit of history about it. It feels a world away from your everyday surroundings, which is just what you want when you’re having a little getaway.
The location is brilliant too, right in the heart of Manchester, making it a handy base for exploring the city. We had a twin room.
A Room With a View (And a Very Happy Teenager!)
Our room was a welcome retreat after a busy day out and about. There is always something rather exciting about checking into a hotel, especially when you’re away with one of your children and can enjoy a bit of quality time together.

Travelling with teenagers can be an interesting experience, as anyone with one will know! However, a Comic Con gives you plenty to chat about, and there was certainly no shortage of things to see and do.

It was lovely to have somewhere comfortable to come back to, put our feet up and recharge before the next part of our adventure.
Manchester, Comic Con and a Bit of Father-and-Teenager Time
The main reason for our visit was Comic Con, and it was lovely to have a proper day out enjoying all the fandom, characters and general excitement.

The Midland made a lovely base for our Manchester adventure, with its central location meaning we could enjoy the city without feeling as though we were miles away from everything.

Would I Stay Again?
Absolutely! The Midland has that lovely combination of history, character and a touch of luxury that makes a hotel stay feel like a treat rather than just somewhere to lay your head.

It was a lovely setting for a little trip away with my youngest teenager, and combining a stay in such an iconic Manchester hotel with a Comic Con made for a rather memorable break.

Sometimes it’s not about going miles away or having an elaborate holiday. It’s about spending time together, doing something you both enjoy and making a few memories along the way.

And if you can squeeze in a stay somewhere as lovely as The Midland while you’re doing it, then all the better!
