I have to say, we love the Swinton Estate. Years ago, when the kids were younger, we glamped in the Tree Lodges, you can see that review here, it was fabulous, but they’ve obviously had a bit of an upgrade since with woodland saunas and private hot tubs (bliss!). I’ve also visited the Swinton Country Club and Spa (review here), and have to say that it’s one of my absolute favourite spas.
So, you can imagine I was very happy to be invited to review the afternoon tea at Swinton! It’s served in a grand (but comfortable) drawing room, where you sit on low chairs and sofas rather than at a table.
We were invited to choose our own table so sat by a window overlooking the Champagne terrace and croquet lawn (how very civilised!).
We were welcomed by friendly staff, and invited to choose our drink from the tea (or coffee) menu. It isn’t mentioned on the menu, but they do serve decaff tea.
You can see the rest of the afternoon tea menu here, with prices:
We were asked if we had any dietary requirements, which we don’t, but we did say that neither of us like fish. They kindly swapped the salmon sandwiches for another of our choice.
The sandwiches were all delicious, but I have to say that my absolute favourite was the Swinton pork, apple and Cheddar cheese sausage roll – it was absolutely divine!
I also really enjoyed the cheese savoury (are you sensing a cheese theme here!):
I must also mention how lovely and knowledgeable the staff were. We were told lots about the afternoon tea and also learned about the kitchen garden (a four-acre Walled Garden, one of the largest in England – and you can have a look around).
In fact, some of the produce on the afternoon tea came directly from the kitchen garden, such as the homemade strawberry, gooseberry and rhubarb jam, served on warm homemade scones! We would have happily bought a jar of this to take home!
You could also tuck into coffee choux buns, a lemon meringue tart and a delicious chocolate thing that I can’t remember the name of! It was, however, very nice!!
All in all, just a lovely day out in a special place. Perfect for afternoon tea lovers like me!
We were invited to visit and review the afternoon tea. As always, all opinions are my own.
