We recently returned from a lovely autumnal break in Jersey with Jet2Holidays. Our trip included flights from Leeds Bradford Airport which has to be my favourite airport as it’s so close to home and so small and friendly.
We stayed at the Royal Yacht Hotel in St Helier which was a very quick and easy transfer from the airport.
Gold Superior Room Review
Our room was in the Gold Superior Room Category and had a king size bed with lots of pillows and cushions.
There was a flat screen Smart TV. I couldn’t cast my phone to it but could log into Netflix.
Oh, and the sockets beside the bed had USBs to charge your devices.
The bathroom is an excellent size with a tub and a large shower.
There’s a wardrobe with robes for the spa and slippers as well as shelves for your clothes.
Here, you will also find a hair dryer and a room safe.
There’s a dressing table with a mirror, lots of lighting and an easy chair and side table for a morning coffee.
Outside you have your own seating area with a bistro table and two chairs.
There’s a hospitality tray with tea and coffee as well as biscuits.
Below the hospitality tray you’ll find a fully stocked, payable mini bar. It’s also nice to know that there was room to pop our own Prosecco in there to cool down!
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the Sirocco Room.
There is a large buffet area with hot and cold food.
Naturally, you will find everything for a full English such as sausages, bacon and hash browns and order your eggs done to your liking, whether that’s fried, boiled or scrambled.
After being seated we were given menus, and invited to either order from the menu or visit the buffet.
The buffet also had pastries and cereal and fresh fruit as well as juice.
We were brought tea or coffee to the table but we could also help ourselves to more hot drinks at the buffet.
The Grill Restaurant
The Grill is a gorgeous steak restaurant within the hotel. We visited on a Tuesday which has a special ‘Steak Night’ menu. This made the prices very reasonable, especially when you consider the absolutely top-notch quality of the restaurant.
We tried the sirloin steak with a peppercorn sauce and a rib-eye steak with garlic butter. The steaks were also served with a roasted onion, chips, onion rings and a roasted tomato.
I have to say that I do eat a lot of steak so feel a little qualified to say that this was a top quality steak! The best I have had in a long time.
I also want to say how good the service was and how well we were looked after during our meal. The service really gave the feel of a very high end restaurant and nothing was too much trouble.
I would have liked to have stayed and tried a dessert but the portions were so generous that it just wasn’t possible! I would definitely return to this restaurant given another opportunity, even if I wasn’t staying in the hotel. Thoroughly recommend.
It’s also worth knowing that in Cafe Zephyr they also have a steak night on a Wednesday, which as I say represents excellent value especially for such good food!
The Spa
The Royal Yacht has a stunning spa in its basement.
Here you will find a large swimming pool and bubble pool.
There is also a sauna, steam room and salt inhalation room.
There is also a drench bucket and monsoon shower.
Also don’t miss the foot baths.
Another thing that would be easy to miss is that in the corner there is a relaxation room with heated beds. Make time for a doze!
To the side of the pool, there’s a well equipped gym too.
There are robes and slippers in the room and we were encouraged to change into our robes before visiting the spa. This was really nice as it made getting changed afterwards so much more convenient.
You can view the spa treatment list on the hotel website. I also noticed that on the front desk there were notices of when last-minute treatments were available. I took from this that actually they were quite busy and this was a rare phenomenon – so if you want to experience a treatment, make sure you book in advance!
Other Restaurants in the Hotel
The hotel has several other places to eat and drink, each with a rather different character.
The main alternative for a proper meal is Café Zephyr.
This was always very popular with a relaxed, lively restaurant and a large terrace. It is open throughout the day, so you can go in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and later in the evening it turns more into a drinks and socialising venue.
We didn’t manage to visit the P.O.S.H Bar, which is essentially the hotel’s Champagne and cocktail bar, aimed at a more sophisticated pre-dinner or evening drink. It has a different feel from the busier Zephyr and is the sort of place you might go for Champagne, cocktails or a drink before heading out for dinner (how nice!).
There is also The Lazyjack, which is more of a relaxed residents’ lounge than a conventional bar. It’s designed as a comfortable place for hotel guests to have a drink and unwind.
Finally, there is The Drift at the opposite end of the spectrum. It is the hotel’s late-night venue, with cocktails, DJs and a dance floor. When we visited there was a Robbie Williams tribute on, on the Friday night.
We bought tickets as it was a charity fundraiser and had a great time!
Royal Yacht Hotel & Spa in Jersey Review
Jersey is ideal for short breaks, the flight takes just over an hour. The island is compact, easy to get around and has lots to see and do.
Overall, our autumn break at the Royal Yacht Hotel & Spa in Jersey was a wonderful experience, combining a comfortable and spacious room with excellent food, attentive service and a fantastic spa.
From the generous breakfast and outstanding steaks at The Grill to the relaxing pool, sauna and heated loungers, there was plenty to enjoy without even leaving the hotel.
Add in the convenient location, quick airport transfer and the ease of travelling with Jet2Holidays from Leeds Bradford, and it made for a wonderfully relaxing getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return to The Royal Yacht on a future visit to Jersey.
