Dark Skies Festival in the North York Moors

10-26 February 2023

The North York Moors National Park is a stargazer’s paradise, with some of the best dark skies in the country. As such it is one of only 20 locations in the world to be recognised for pristine, dark skies and given International Dark Sky Reserve status, awarded by the International Dark-Sky Association.

It’s all about discovering, learning and enjoying the dark and the stars you can see as a result, with events throughout the year.

In 2023 they’re delighted to be showcasing the eighth Dark Skies Festival – full of activities and opportunities to appreciate the wonders of the night sky.

From 10 – 26 February make sure you visit for some star-studded, wallet-friendly, events suitable for all ages.

Have a look for some ideas on the best locations for stargazing to discover more about their star-studded events.

Deer Shed Festival

Topcliffe, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire

28th-31st July 2023

The Deer Shed ethos: “If you go and watch a Pixar movie with your children, everyone has a great time. Not just your kids, EVERYBODY!!! We strive for this holy-grail every year.

We don’t have kid’s areas as such, they’re not zoo animals! The whole site is accessible to everyone and we will welcome you as though you were our house guests, which you essentially are.

But we are a cultural event too and you will be exposed to many new things. We like new things. You might be challenged by some of them, but we want every family member to leave Baldersby Park inspired, if that’s ok.

And finally, our music line-up, hitting you through extremely high fidelity PA systems will be as thrilling and contemporary as you will find at any UK festival – it’s just that you can share that thrill with your kids and feel perfectly safe at the same time.”
