Kuredu Resort

Kuredu was the first ever resort we visited in the Maldives, albeit before the children came along.  It lives long in my memory as one of my favourite holidays ever, and I would love to return and take the children.

From Kuredu’s website: It’s a big, big world, but rarely do you find a holiday destination where sparkling lagoons, exciting things to do and genuine hospitality come together to create such a fascinating country as the Maldives. You’re guaranteed to have a wonderful time regardless of which island you choose. However if you have children in tow, you will want to pick one that offers enough adventure to keep the kids entertained while giving you zero hassle (no rushing cars, kids pool by the bar, playground next to the restaurant… you get the idea!). A shining example: Kuredu!  Do the Maldives with kids the right way!

In addition to its beaches, short distances between facilities and comfortable villas, families with children love Kuredu for several reasons:

Kids’ club – features an indoor play area as well as an outdoor playground.  Kids’ Club welcomes children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old free of charge

Kid-friendly water sports – Our tip to get the little ones (and you!) jump for joy: Dolphin Safari.

Golf – Pitch and put, driving range and a 6-hole par 3 course are perfect for a few hours of fun for the whole family.

Diving and snorkelling – Courses and guided trips showcase the very best of the Maldives’ coral reefs. Yes, you could find Nemo, Dory, as well as turtles, manta rays and baby sharks.

Main and kids’ pool – For unlimited fun in the sun. Shaded areas and bars nearby.

Dhigali Maldives

Crystal clear waters lap powder-white sanded beaches, elegantly modern villas rise out of the azure lagoon, and are glimpsed amongst lush verdant foliage on the beach. Dhigali, located in the Raa Atoll, is just a 50-minute transfer from Male’s International Airport, yet feels a world away.

Even with the romance of the sea, sun and stunning views, families and children will feel right at home here; with an extensive kids’ club, children’s menus in all the restaurants and an array of family-focused activities including treasure hunts and dolphin cruises throughout the year.

In the waters, Dhigali’s virgin coral reef is one of the most spectacular in the Raa Atoll, and starting just 4 meters from shore, exploring this under-water world makes for a fun, exciting and educational family activity. Snorkelers can find beautiful hard corals, like brain coral and table coral, and expect to encounter large schools of Fusiliers and Groupers, while other fish, such as Tuna, Napoleons, Eagle Rays and juvenile Black Tip Reef Sharks travel their domain.

Back on the surface, a sunset boat trip with the family, to find dolphins out in the open waters of the Indian Ocean is a fantastic way to spend the late afternoon, while fishing excursions and ocean snorkelling trips make welcome adventures for older children, and adventurous parents.

The Kids Club, PLAY, at Dhigali offers indoor and outdoor fun, for kids aged 4 to 12 years old. An array of exciting activities each day are on offer at the Kids Club, including treasure hunts, coconut painting, marine biology lessons and nature walks. The Water Garden, an outdoor playground with splash park offers the perfect opportunity for parents to head to the spa, the beach or one of the delectable restaurants for some serious relaxation.

Water sports are abundant with kayaks, sailing, tubing and jet skis to hand, perfect for active families. Keen water-babies can even get a taste for Scuba Diving with a ‘Bubblemakers’ course for kids 8 years and above which costs US$95.

Dhigali’s Beach Villas present the best services that Maldivian family resorts offer, with a large bedroom area, a bathroom spanning across indoor and outdoor space with a rainfall shower and a deep tub, and an expansive deck overlooking the beach. Four can sleep comfortably in these villas, making them an ideal choice for family stays.

Enjoy family times, amidst a stunning setting, the ideal setting for exploration and relaxation, at Dhigali Maldives.

Passport to Adventure Programme – This new programme introduces children aged 4 to 12 to the island’s extraordinary natural wonders through a series of exciting challenges, puzzles and activities. In addition to inspiring a passion for adventure and discovery, the program incorporates many of the Resort’s environmental initiatives. Children can build their own coral reef, feed the baby clownfish in the Fish Lab and visit the on-site Marine Discovery Centre, home to the atoll’s only turtle rehabilitation centre.

The program includes up to eight daily activities alongside a “passport” of puzzles, facts and challenges – from coral reefscaping to wishing tree walks, dosha discovery to lizard spotting. In addition to enjoying each activity, kids who complete the related challenge earn a stamp. Seven or more stamps earn a toy, and the collection of all 14 stamps leads to ice cream sundaes at Blu Restaurant & Sunset Bar.

Children are free to join in as and when they like, from an hour at a time to all day every day. And with stamps available at designated points all over the Resort, they can even collect them when out and about with mum and dad.
