I always think Mother’s Day arrives at just the right moment. The world is beginning to wake up again after winter — the days are stretching out, there’s a bit of blue sky if we’re lucky, and suddenly everything feels better. You can head out for a walk without quite so many layers, spot the first daffodils, and actually feel the sun on your face. That change in season lifts everyone’s mood, and it makes the day feel even more special. We once had Mothers’ Day Sunday lunch at our local pub and they gave each of us a potted primrose to take home and I’ve always remembered what a special touch that was!
It’s also lovely to properly celebrate the mother figure in your life. Whether that’s your mum, mum-in-law, stepmum, grandma or someone else who has always been there with advice, reassurance and the odd reality check (!), it’s a lovely excuse to pause and say thank you.

For me, Mother’s Day is about appreciation. It’s about making someone feel seen, valued and just a little bit spoiled. And that, especially as the weather brightens, feels pretty wonderful.
The main issue we have, is what to get the mothers in our lives! So, I have concentrated not on what they might need (because they don’t really need anything!) but on what they might want.
I was lucky enough to be able to work with Very lately who have a whole myriad of gifting ideas for anything your mum could possibly desire! Now, I know that gifting slippers is a bit of a Marmite situation – some people hate the idea. They think slippers are prosaic and dull. Not me though, I love slippers! I have some strict requirements for the perfect slipper though. I feel that womens slippers need to be backless so you can easily push your feet in when you first wake up on a morning and are not capable of anything else!

I don’t like the sole to be too thick. I don’t know why I don’t like this, but a few years ago I had some extremely expensive slippers with a deep sole and for whatever reason, they made me anxious! I think I was worried about tripping or falling off them! I did manage to sell them at a decent price on Vinted though, so not all was lost!

The slippers I chose are these gorgeous fluffy ones from Totes Toasties. They are pretty, cosy and have a divine sparkle (and the sole, like Mummy Bear’s Porridge is just right!).

Another example of wanting rather than needing an item is this fab smart watch. It’s perfect for mums who like to keep up-to-date with the latest tech. It counts what steps you do, tracks your sleep and heart rate and even nags when you have been sat too long. Hmm, on second thoughts, can you turn that function off?! You can use it to make and receive calls, message, use social media, and it’s even water resistant.

Finally, who would ever say no to their favourite perfume? Very have a huge womens perfume section. It’s a really decadent treat, and absolutely perfect for Mother’s Day.

I love the fact that this Marc Jacobs perfume comes as a gift set with body lotion and a travel size spray.

Mother’s Day in the UK falls on the 15th of March this year, so get planning and don’t leave it till the last minute! Most importantly, have a lovely Mother’s day!
