On our recent trip to Jersey, we headed to L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa at St Brelade for a spa afternoon followed by afternoon tea.
L’Horizon has a beautiful position overlooking St Brelade’s Bay, so even before we’d set foot in the spa, we knew we were in for a treat. It was a bit stormy early on, on the day we visited and there was something wonderfully cosy about knowing that, for the next few hours, we didn’t have to be anywhere else. (It came out brighter later on though!)

We changed into our robes and headed down to the spa.
We spent some time in the pool before heading into the jacuzzi. We weren’t swimming lengths or doing anything remotely energetic. This was very much a case of sitting back, enjoying the warm water and taking in the surroundings. The jacuzzi is perfect for this as it provides a fabulous view of the beach.
L’Horizon also has a sauna and a steam room.
Upstairs there is a gorgeous relaxation room with magazines. You are shown here to chill out before your treatment.
The treatment itself was lovely: calming, unhurried and a chance to completely switch off. I opted for a combination of facial with a back, neck and shoulder massage, which I always think is the best of both worlds.
The products used were Elemis which is one of my favourites.
By the time it finished, I’d reached that wonderfully relaxed state where you aren’t entirely sure what time it is – which, for me, is the sign of a successful spa day. Afterwards I was shown into the sleep room, where I could have spent the whole afternoon given chance!
But there was one more important part of our afternoon.

We made our way through to enjoy tea overlooking St Brelade’s Bay, and it was a lovely setting. There’s something particularly indulgent about sitting down with a pot of tea while looking out across the sea. Again, this is somewhere I would have liked to have spent a few hours with a good book.
Then came the sandwiches, followed by scones with cream and jam and, of course, the cakes.
I’m always going to be tempted by afternoon tea, but after a morning of relaxing it felt even more enjoyable.
Jersey is somewhere you could easily spend every day exploring, but you don’t always have to.
Sometimes the best holiday memories are made when you slow down.
Our afternoon at L’Horizon was just that: a swim, a jacuzzi, a lovely treatment, plenty of tea, far too many cakes and a beautiful sea view.
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s that exploring an island is wonderful – but sometimes you need to put your feet up, look at the sea and let someone else bring you cake.
