At the end of October half term we decided on a trip over to Bridlington to have a walk along the beach, a play in the amusements and lunch at The Freeman Cookhouse and Pub. It’s a lovely big family friendly, modern pub on the seafront at Bridlington. We reviewed it earlier this year and you can read that here, so when we were invited back to try out their Autumn Menu I said yes straight away!
It’s a perfect location for a seaside walk with lovely views on a clear day, and plenty of parking around it. It was around £4-£5 for four hours, which gave us enough time to play the 2p slots before (and after) lunch! After our blustery walk, it was lovely to enter the warmth and cosiness of The Freeman. We had a comfortable circular booth with a sea view. The Autumn menu features lots of warming dishes like the Beef and Doom Bar pie or the vegan equivalent of Fake & Ale pie! Mr Wonders tried a new dish – The Whole Hog – – tender riblets glazed with BBQ sauce, gammon steak topped with a grilled pineapple, hog roast bites, pork chubbies, chips and apple and BBQ sauce for dipping. I had complete food envy when it arrived!
As we were there on a Sunday I fancied a good old Sunday roast! I asked for no veg if you are wondering where it is but upgraded for extra roast potatoes and an extra Yorkshire Pudding for £1. From memory the veg included root veg mash, honey glazed parsnips and seasonal veg. I had a good pot of gravy and was later offered more (which I accepted).
Miss H also loves a roast dinner, and went for the kids Sunday lunch (minus the meat as she is pescatarian). She did have the veg, but it’s hidden under her Yorkshire pudding!
Master T went for the adult sized ‘Ultimate Burger’, which is made up of two 4oz burgers, streaky bacon, cheese and onions amongst other things.
For dessert, I ordered a caramel sundae and it was delicious – Master T wished he had ordered mine!
Miss H went for a healthy fruit salad:
And Master T went for a brownie and ice cream combo:
All in all it was a lovely family meal in relaxed surroundings. On the way out I saw this reminder of things to come – yes you can check out their festive menus now!
We were invited to visit and review. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
