A Yorkshire Picnic at the Doubletree by Hilton, York

A Yorkshire Picnic at the Doubletree by Hilton, York – Billed as ‘Afternoon Tea for Yorkshire Folk’ I was intrigued to try the Yorkshire Picnic at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in York.  So, one day during half term three of my blogging friends and our children descended to sample it!  The hotel has recently been refurbished and has been done really well – the decor is fresh, modern and attractive.  There are lots of tables in the restaurant as well as little cosy areas that would be perfect for coffee and cake.  We were sat in a garden room which was lovely and light and airy.

**UPDATE – there is an offer for this afternoon tea currently on Groupon HERE for £8.75 each or £10.75 to include a glass of Prosecco!**

I receive a few pennies if you buy from this link, but wholeheartedly recommend it. (I promise you will thank me later!).  Anyway, back to the original review:

Through a door was an enclosed courtyard which again would be a lovely place to sit in summer and a great place for the kids to have a wander.

Once we were all seated (four adults – seven children!) we were offered our choice of tea of coffee and the children were offered juice.  My tea came in this magnificent ‘Yorkshire Tea’ teapot, which as well as looking very jolly, held a huge amount of tea.

We were served these large sausage rolls.

Followed by this slate laden with sandwiches.  We had smoked salmon and crème fraîche, ham and mustard mayonnaise and Wensleydale cheese and pickle, served on cute brioche buns.  Don’t be fooled into thinking these were small sandwiches, because they most certainly were not.  The children were also offered and brought plainer sandwiches if they preferred.

It has to be said there was so much food we didn’t manage to finish the sandwiches.  Besides which we needed to save room for the fabulous cakes and sweets that came afterwards.

A Yorkshire alternative to Afternoon Tea

We had Eton Mess with fresh raspberries.

Scones with chantilly cream, homemade chocolate brownies and homemade carrot cake.

When we had all finished we were asked if we had any nut allergies among us before the children were each given a warm and gooey cookie (went down well!).

All in all I was very impressed.  Great quality food, plentiful amounts in a lovely setting.  We had a marvellous time!

Anna from Me, Annie Bee, Suzanne from And Another Ten Things and Faith from Raising Moonbows will also be reviewing if you’d like to see what they thought!  Also, do have a look at my other reviews of Afternoon Tea in York.

Doubletree by Hilton invited us to review their Yorkshire Picnic, but as ever, all opinions expressed are my own.
