York Community Stadium – Hollywood Bowl Announced!

York Community Stadium News – I’ve been watching the developments at the York Community Stadium with interest.  I have to admit I am more interested in the retail and leisure side of the development rather than the sport side.  I’m quite excited to see what is coming and with the plans to open this Summer/Autumn I don’t have long to wait.  The latest news sees us getting a Hollywood Bowl.  I have reviewed the Hollywood Bowl in Leeds here and I have to say the facilities are more up-to-date than Ten Pin at Clifton Moor.  Similarly the new Cineworld is going to have a serious impact on Vue at Clifton Moor that has been needing a revamp for a while (though I will still find he £5 tickets for any movie attractive!).

Another thing mentioned in the press release below is an ‘indoor mini-golf’ of three courses, each with 9 holes.  We’ve been to the indoor mini-golf at Xscape near Castleford (I have pictures here) and wonder if it will be like that?

There are five new restaurants planned for the complex.  So far (as I know) the only restaurant that has been confirmed is TGI Fridays which I think has gone down well as we have never had a TGI Fridays in York before and we all like to try something new!  I’m excited to see what other restaurants will come.

Ok, here is the official press release:

The commercial development at York Stadium Leisure Complex is set to welcome another household name as Wrenbridge Sport and L&G announce a 46,438 sq ft deal with Hollywood Bowl Group.

The Group will open a 24-lane state of the art bowling centre featuring a bar, American diner and an amusements area, alongside a new indoor mini golf centre, which will feature 3 courses each with 9 holes.

The 8,000 seat stadium, which is under construction and due to open Summer 2019, will be home to the city’s football and rugby league clubs. The project is being delivered by the City of York Council, Greenwich Leisure Limited and Wrenbridge Sport with construction partner, Buckingham Group and includes a new leisure centre with gym and fitness studios, swimming pools, sports hall, clip and climb and external 3G sports pitches. The commercial element that has been funded by Legal and General’s Leisure Fund and will now include a Hollywood Bowl and a new indoor mini golf centre to sit alongside a new 13 screen Cineworld Cinema and restaurants.

Andrew Ferguson of L&G commented “we’re delighted to see the York scheme come out of the ground and the space being taken by Hollywood Bowl lends itself well to big box leisure. Bowling and indoor mini-golf will complement the cinema, restaurants and stadium creating a family destination with regional appeal, strengthened further by the proximity to Vangarde Shopping Centre including Next, M&S and John Lewis.”

Ewen McLeod of Wrenbridge Sport commented “the deal with Hollywood Bowl Group reinforces how attractive the location has become. This is an important milestone for the project, which is now 80% pre-let and our focus is on overseeing completion of the build and letting the remaining space, so commercial tenants can start their fitouts by Summer 2019 and be up and trading by the Autumn.”

Laurence Keen of Hollywood Bowl Group added, “We are pleased to have secured what will be another prime, high footfall destination to enable us to continue to execute on our new centre opening strategy. We’re delighted to be bringing both the Hollywood Bowl brand and our new indoor mini-golf concept to York and to be a part of this exciting new leisure development.”
Tom Raban, Partner at Montagu Evans, said: “Variety is essential for success in the leisure market right now. Hollywood Bowl Group’s decision to develop a new-concept mini-golf facility alongside a bowling centre, as well as taking space within a wider leisure offer next to one of the UK’s top ten shopping parks, is an ideal move with potential for long-term benefit.”
