10 Best Places to go Strawberry Picking Yorkshire in 2023

Strawberry Picking Yorkshire – one of the highlights of our summer is going to pick strawberries.  Strawberry picking starts mid/late June around here.  There is something so delightful about it and the kids love doing it (just don’t let them pick too many unless you want a second mortgage!).

We love to then eat them in the car on the way home when they are still warm from the sun – delicious!  So, if you are looking for strawberry farms near you, here is a great list!

Or look for other family days out in Yorkshire.

Strawberry Picking York

Balloon Tree, York, North Yorkshire

Stamford Bridge Rd, Gate Helmsley, York YO41 1NB

The Balloon Tree is one of the closest places to strawberry pick near York. They sell other produce too, have a fabulous farm shop, fabulous cafe and a children’s play area.  They do an excellent breakfast and excellent cake – depending on when you plan to visit, so if you are clever, plan to visit when you can handily fit a meal in too!

Last year they had picnic benches at the exit of the strawberry picking and a little hut selling drinks and ice creams, which is also a nice way to finish your day out.

We have reviewed The Balloon Tree cafe here.

“We are proud to be a fourth generation family-run mixed farm. With diversity comes sustainability for the land, the environment and the family

We keep things simple growing the strawberries in the ground, rather than in raised beds.  We find that not only do the strawberries taste better this way, but think it is more fun for the kids to pick them like this, as they can rummage amongst the leaves trying to find the biggest sweetest strawberry.”

Strawberry Picking Huddersfield

Bentley Grange, Huddersfield

Bentley Grange Farm, Emley, Huddersfield HD8 9QX

Bentley Grange is a great spot for strawberry picking Yorkshire.

From their website:

“We grow a range of soft fruit including Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackcurrants, Redcurrants and Gooseberries. Strawberries often start around Wimbledon week and last approximately six weeks.

Gooseberries start a little earlier and raspberries and currants a little later but each year is different, depending on the weather.

Strawberries are the most popular fruit on the farm. Grown in bags off the ground, this method is known as “table top production”.  It makes them much easier to pick, no bending for the customer and no need to use weed killers on the crop.

They are also protected by poly tunnels which has improved the quality of the fruit and enables customers to stay dry during  typical British Summers. Strawberries usually start around Wimbledon week but please check the latest information before travelling”
