Sledging at Snozone, Castleford and Lunch in the Alpine Cafe – Review

Over half term we had a great day out at Snozone in Xscape at Castleford. We tried one of their fabulous sledging sessions. At the moment they have a special summer offer on for just £4.99 each!

Snozone Xscape Castleford Sledging ReviewMake sure you wrap up warm as it’s -7 on the slope. You can hire ski clothing, but if you are just sledging, make sure you have the kids in really warm and protective clothing. You won’t be allowed on the slope without gloves – so make sure you bring them!

Unless you are heading straight home afterwards it might be a good idea to take a change of clothes and shoes too as you will get wet!  Children under 12 need an adult on the slope with them.

There are lockers at Snozone, you will need £1 but it’s refundable. You will also be provided with a helmet and sledge.  Ypu can see the sledges in the bwlow picture – the kids are getting a lesson in how to use them!

The kids had an absolute ball, scampering up and sliding down the slope. The instructor was great with the kids – a complete natural – and kept suggesting different ways of sledging (forwards, backwards or as a conga line!)

It was great fun and tired them out but above all there is a fabulous novelty to sledging in June!

Afterwards we heading up the new Alpine cafe which has fabulous views of the slopes.  You can stop for an après ski beer or coffee and watch the snowboarders and skiiers or you can have a well deserved lunch like we did!  They have some really unusual and tasty Swiss themed dishes too.  I absolutely loved my tartiflette – a dish from Savoy in the Alps, made with potatoes, reblochon cheese, lardons and onions.  I had never tried this dish before and was childishly amused by its name – but it was seriously delicious!  It’s a good sized portion too, so please do try it if you visit.

Mr W ordered another traditional skiing dish, a bockwurst sausage with chunky chips.

Master T went for a Southern fried chicken burger and was very happy:

Miss H plumped for the Tuna Melt:

All in all we had a brilliant time sledging and eating in Snozone.  The cafe has a small softplay too that’s brilliant for little ones and would make an ideal place for lunch with toddlers.

Snozone invited us to attend and review – but as always all opinions expressed are my own.
