Great Women’s Down Jackets from Simply Hike

We have had some amazing weather this February.  In fact, it was so nice yesterday that we ventured to Fraisthorpe Beach for the day.  It’s a lovely beach that goes on for miles.  You park in a farmer’s field (it’s just £3 for the whole day) and then set up your own part of Yorkshire beach paradise.  It’s such a huge beach that there is always plenty of room even in high summer.  You can sit and watch the world go by, from ecstatic dogs chasing each other around to the horse-riders splashing through the shallow water.  Then you will see the families playing cricket, or searching for crabs or fossils.  Lastly, the more energetic types with kite buggies and windsurfers.  I set up my chair and book and sit and watch the kids play.  The weather was glorious but the longer I sat the more I realised that I need a new (and warmer!) coat!  So, my research has taken me to Simply Hike, who have a huge range of the type of down jacket I am looking for.  The first one that caught my eye was this beet red one from Berghaus.

It comes with all sort of fancy jacket technology, it’s filled with Hydrodown® for great insulation even when wet, has Reflect™ technology for extra warmth and Pertex® Quantum outer fabric for lightweight windproofing.  But really, it’s the colour that really attracts me a sort of hot pink/red.  Plus it looks sooo cosy!

My next choice would be the Mountain Hardwear Womens StretchDown DS Hooded Jacket:

I like the unusual pattern of the padding on this one as well as the colour (yes, I do choose based on colour!), but it equally has lots of features.  The website says it ‘Warm, light, incredibly stretchy knit fabric is vastly more comfortable than conventional down jackets, with zippered hand-warmer pockets, zippered left chest pocket, and two easy-access interior drop pockets.’

I think the main thing is that these jackets keep you warm and cosy whether you are up a mountain or sat watching the kids on a chilly Yorkshire beach, and you can look great into the bargain!
