This year I have volunteered to help out with my cousin’s village Spring Fair. I am not sure exactly what happened, but we were having a glass of wine together, and feeling quite relaxed and then all of a sudden I was roped in to help! Now, I have to say, I have no experience of organising large events. I have lots of experience with helping out at our PTA Christmas and Summer fairs but they are on a much smaller scale!
We are planning all the usual smaller stalls like the tombola and the bric-a-brac stall. I’ll be doing the usual face painting and maybe some balloon modelling. We have also organised some local bands to do a set on stage in the middle of the day, but what she really wanted me to do is organise something spectacular that would draw the crowds in. My kids love something active, so I came up with the idea of hiring a fabulous bungee trampoline!
The same company does funfair hire Yorkshire too which will go down so well with the kids, they love the speedway and the waltzers.
I love the vintage feel of a good old fashioned carousel. The paintwork is always so beautiful and look how incredible they are when lit up at night! There really is something wonderfully nostalgic about a carousel!
We’ll have to have food stalls as well, my personal favourite is a hog roast, but my daughter is veggie, so would like something like Asian noodles. Of course a sweetie stall with lots of goodies like toffee apples and candyfloss is a must and will be my son’s favourite stall. Perhaps a coffee stall too or even something selling stronger drinks if we can get a licence!
It looks set to be a fabulous day! Maybe I don’t regret getting involved after all!
