Melissa – Greek Grill House in Stoupa, on the Mani, Greece

There are lots of lovely tavernas and restaurants around the curve of the beach in Stoupa and we have always been welcomed with children wherever we have been.

Melissa, a Greek Grill House

Just up a little sidestreet from the main beach road you will find Melissa, a Greek Grill House. It might not have a seaview but it isn’t lacking in charm and you can eat beneath trees strung with lanterns for when the sun goes down. Like many of the tavernas it’s clearly a family run business.

Crackling Pork

They have a wood fired grill and different specials depending on what is in season. My favourite there is always the crackling pork. I can recommend the chicken or pork souvlaki also.

Master T loves shrimp and chose the spicy shrimp with tomato sauce.  He did make a performance about how spicy it was but he pretty much cleared his plate, so draw your own conclusions!  They also do a great Greek meat pie.

Mr Wonders went for the Chicken Schnitzel.

Curries and Asian Dishes

More unusually for Stoupa, they also serve excellent curries but the grill is really where my heart is.  I ordered the Indonesian mixed curry as I was curious and it was lovely.

Sometimes you will be brought little extras as a gift from the restaurant, such as these pieces of bread, liberally covered in a delicious spicy cheese spread, or a zesty lime cheesecake.

Takeaway and Delivery Food in Stoupa

Melissa also do takeaways, which are very reasonably priced and comparative to cooking at home if you are in accommodation with a kitchen. They also deliver which is something we plan to take advantage of next time so Mr Wonders can partake of his favourite Mythos (Greek beer) on our balcony as the sun sets behind the mountains of the opposite peninsula.

Prices in Melissa, Stoupa

Most of the tavernas in Stoupa have similar prices. In Melissa a chicken souvlaki and chips will set you back €8 while half a litre of white house wine comes in at a stonkingly cheap €3.
