Joe’s Kitchen, Ludgate Hill, London – Great Family Friendly Restaurant

Joe’s Kitchen, Ludgate Hill in London really is a fab restaurant to take the kids.  We visited the one in York last summer and really liked it, so we chose it as one of the places we would go on our visit to London.  It’s really close to the picturesque St Paul’s Cathedral. We came straight from one of the open top tour buses. I love those buses, very touristy I know, but a great way to see all the iconic places when your time is limited.

Joe’s Kitchen, Ludgate Hill

It was a lovely sunny day, but even so it was February and dark by the time we finished. Even with our hardy Northern blood, we were all frozen by the end of it.  Cue Joe’s Kitchen, a nicely located table with a bit of privacy and a great big wall heater – all our prayers had been answered!

Board Games and Picture Books

The staff were lovely with the kids – jolly and welcoming. Just near our table was a stand of kids’ board games and a good selection of picture books. I was really pleased as there were games when we visited York, and I was worried there might not be in London, but there was!  The kids played Guess Who?, Jenga, Dominoes and Connect Four. Other than a bit of refereeing “he never lets me win, wah!”, the games provided a bit of well deserved respite for us parents while they played.

Fish and Chips, Burgers and Pasta

The restaurant interior mirrors the food; contemporary and comforting. The kids both had fish and chips (and loved it).

Mr Wonders had the Gourmet Burger (set in his ways, no?) and I plumped for the chicken and bacon carbonara linguini. It was a lovely warm hug in the shape of a tasty bowl of pasta, it really was. Fab and creamy with lots of chunks of smoky bacon, exactly what I needed after the Siberian bus tour!

Sticky Toffee Pudding

When the waiter suggested dessert it would have been churlish to refuse.  Besides the kids got pudding included in their kids meals, so it was hard to resist! Both kids and dad went for the old favourite of sticky toffee pudding (very nice, I tried it!) while I decided on the lemon meringue sundae. It was luscious, lemony with nice crispy meringue and cream on top. Delicious.

Lovely, Warm and Cosy Surroundings

All in all I would really recommend Joe’s Kitchen for a family meal. Great food in lovely comfortable surroundings and plenty for the kids. There were lots of other families in too which I think is a good sign. Great background music too!
