Glamping at Rushy Meadows, Oxford – Canopy & Stars

A review of Rushy Meadows, near Oxford, kindly written for us by Sara Dace-Hughes.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a friend’s birthday at Rushy Meadows, a Canopy & Stars glamping site near Oxford.  We arrived fairly late on Friday night after a surprisingly stress free journey from Yorkshire.

Boating on the Lake

The site was amazing, we soon lost Miss M, she was found with the other children rowing Peggy Sue (the boat) around the lake, and that is pretty much where she stayed for the whole of the weekend (handy hint – I did not take enough clothes for her as getting in and out of the boat seemed to involve getting wet and muddy).

Tent Pitches Available

We pitched our tent in a field of long grass (another handy hint – if husband suffers from hayfever make sure he has packed tablets!). Tent up and glass of prosecco in hand we tucked into fish and chips from the local village (Smarts Fish & Chip Shop, Eynsham) which were delicious. It was so quiet and peaceful we slept in on Saturday morning, then sat outside the tent drinking tea and chatting to our lovely kind neighbours (who had provided both hayfever tablets and tissues for sneezing husband). Miss M was of course on the lake taking some of the adults on boat trips.

Wildlife

We popped into Witney which is a great little town and had brunch in the Church Green café which was lovely (sorry, no pic we were too hungry). On our return to the camp site there was an averages sized buzzard sitting on a post on the driveway (husband says it was a massive buzzard – this a recurring theme in our marriage).

Woodland Walk at Rushy Meadows

We went on the woodland walk which led through a branch tunnel to another lake, it was so peaceful we could have been the only people in the world. Once back at the campsite things had gone up a gear, delicious food had arrived and a band was setting up, Miss M was still rowing around the lake.  The party was a great celebration and we were all a little weary the next day.

Shepherds’ Huts

I did however take time to investigate one of the shepherd huts which are available to hire, they were very well appointed and the owners have thought of everything (There was even mossie spray) they are also all a distance from each other so you aren’t overlooked by neighbours, although I enjoyed our stay I think I would like to go back for a romantic weekend to fully appreciate it.

The Loos and washing facilities

My last word must go to the loos, those who know me will know that I am not a natural camper, the loos and showers were brilliant, clean, plenty of hot water, nice towels.  All in all we can thoroughly recommend, especially the boat!
