Fun and Educational – Geomag Mechanics Review & Giveaway!

Geomag Mechanics Gravity Up & Down Circuits Review – We were recently sent a Geomag Mechanics Gravity Up & Down Circuit set to review (and a set to giveaway – don’t miss the chance at the bottom of this post!).  It coincided with Master T’s 11th birthday which was perfect for both of us.  He currently has two loves in his life, he loves his metal detector and spends time after school looking for treasure, and he loves Fortnite.  Now, I loved computer games when I was little, and both Mr W and I are former IT people so we are not against him playing computer games.  However, I don’t want that to be all he enjoys, so I was pleased when this Geomag set came our way.  Although another great toy he loved was this space toy.

He is doing his SATS in May, and I think this is a great way to explore STEM subjects in a fun and interesting way.  To begin with I think he was a little overwhelmed with the amount of pieces in the set (our set came with around 330 pieces, but you can start smaller than this and add more later).  You can see him opening the set and getting to grips with it in this video:

He loved Lego when he was younger and I can see that this would appeal on a similar level to older children.  You can build the suggested structures in the paperwork (also look on YouTube for more tutorials) or you can let their imagination run wild and they can make their own structures.  I think it’s a really great toy to sit with your kids and play and there is great educational scope (without appearing educational!) as you can discuss magnetism and why certain things work and why magnets attract and repel for instance.

Master T had great fun making this magnetic cannon (you can see it in action in the video too – he explains it much better than I!).  You can see why he would enjoy building it and playing with it though!

After the cannon he made a ‘gravity motor’ as you can see in the next picture.  He explained to me that you could load the ball in and then twist the orange ‘wings’ at the top, which would make the ball slowly lower until it popped out into the container below.  (He described this in much greater detail than I have!).

We have really just scratched the surface of this set and he has so much more he still wants to build.  It’s an ideal toy for more than one child too as there are lots of collaborative possibilities.  If you don’t have another child handy you might enjoy it yourself.  I know Mr W has had a play and I can imagine it being very popular when the family come at Christmas!

  1. this looks a fab kit for enquiring little minds. I’ve entered because apart from the fact that I know Leo would love it – I’d love him to build something other than the same railway track over & over & over again!

  2. I”ve entered. Looks great – just the kind of thing I’m looking for for a last minute present I’ve offered to buy.
