Cobra MX4140V Cordless Lawnmower – Review

I have never had a cordless lawnmower before and was keen to try one so I was very happy when Cobra kindly offered to send us one to try out. Our old petrol lawnmower finally went to mow the lawn in the sky at the end of last Summer. It was over fifteen years old so it was a real eye opener to see what new products are available now.  The Cobra MX4140V is an electric 40V Lithium-ion battery powered mower.

The battery is quite large and I have cut our averagely sized lawn twice now and the battery still has three quarters of a charge.  The battery is easy to put in and take out of the mower too.

The switch you can see in the picture is the isolating switch and can be removed for safety. Try not to lose it like hubby does with his keys.

On the handle there is a button you can press to see how much battery life is left.

Seven Different Height Settings

The Cobra cordless mower comes with seven different height settings, from 25mm to 75mm. If you are like me, you will mainly use the really high one for when you have not got round to cutting the lawn for ages and it’s like a jungle out there! Once lowered though, you can lower it and get a neater cut worthy of Percy Thrower (no? Am I showing my age there?).  The cutting width is 41cm (16″ in old money).

The lawnmower comes with a collection back box so you can gather all the lawn clippings with a 50ltr capacity.  There is a little red flap that pops up to show the box is full.   Or you can choose to use the mulch plug that chomps the grass up and then blows it back down into the grass. It’s good for the grass, plus you don’t need to empty the cuttings or find somewhere to recycle them!

When the back box is removed and the mulch plug is in, the back of the lawnmower looks like this:

Cobra Cordless Law Mower – Easy to Push

The Cobra is not self propelled, which I have to admit I was a bit concerned about. Many moons ago I had an old petrol mower that wasn’t self propelled and it was the very devil to push! The Cobra feels light and pushes easily. Miss H could easily mow the garden with it and she is eight.

The Cobra MX4140V is relatively quiet too, so that’s a bonus if you have moany neighbours. All in all I am very pleased to have come into the new world of lawnmowers. I may even mow the lawn myself (could never get the old petrol one even started!). And at least we won’t run out of petrol for this one!

Cobra kindly sent us the Cobra MX4140V Lawn Mower to review, but, as ever, all the opinions expressed are my own.
