Camp Katur Glamping Yorkshire – Geodome Review

We recently visited Camp Katur Glamping in North Yorkshire.  We split our time between the Hobbit Hide and the Geodome. I have written about the Hobbit Hide here, and Bear’s Place (a lovely lodge with a hot tub) and will now tell you about our adventures in the Geodome!

Camp Katur Yorkshire

The Geodome is special as one side of the tent is see-through, providing fabulous views across the camp during the day and a wonderful opportunity to stargaze at night.  There are curtains to the lower part of the dome so you can feel private though, don’t worry!  The centre of the dome is very high too so it feels like there is lots of space.  All of the glamping pods at Camp Katur are set around a huge field so you have the lovely clear views to the front out of the dome itself, and no other pods nearby either, so you feel pleasantly private and remote. The Geodome sleeps between two and four so was ideal for us. Mr Wonders and I took the double bed (of course) and the kids slept on camp beds. The double bed was made up ready for us with fresh white sheets, two pillows each, a duvet and a heavy throw.

Off Grid Camping

Camp Katur is off grid – which means there is no electricity at all.  There are lanterns and a stock of tealights (if you are a candle fanatic like me though, I’d recommend taking your own stash – we didn’t run out, but I like to be a bit more blasé with my tea-light usage!).  There are also fairy lights in the Geodome so you feel nice and cosy.  Again, I am a big fairy light fan (you should see my house at Christmas!) so I took extra – but they were not needed.  I’d recommend taking a torch though for late night loo visits.

Firepit and Barbecue

There is a wood burning stove to keep you toasty if the weather is a bit on the cool side.  We were provided with a big box of logs, kindling and fire lighters.  There is a fire pit outside too, which will be nice on summer’s evenings.  We made use of the large barbecue outside the Geodome and I had a couple of glasses of wine while Mr Wonders cooked sausages and burgers.  There is a large seating area around the firepit, so it’s a great social space.

Camp Katur Geodome

There is a small wooden shed that makes a very swish kitchen and has a gas fired stove so you can make a cuppa in the morning.  There is crockery and cutlery there too.  On the other side of the Camp Katur Geodome you will find two further sheds – one is a hot water shower and the other is the loo!  If we were to go again, I’d take more fairy lights and leave them on overnight in the loo for a bit of light and jolliness!

Glamping with Hot Tub Yorkshire

If you are the social type (unlike Mr Wonders!) you can join in on Camp Katur’s pizza night.  It’s £10 per pizza and cooked there and then for you in their pizza oven.  You need to book in advance, but I got an email ahead of time letting me know.  There is also a barbecue hut you can hire, which would be great for larger families I think, and you can also hire the wood fired hot tub too.  I think we should do this next time – glamping with hot tub – ideal!

This is the children’s play area just next to the communal eating area and pizza oven.

Family Glamping

We loved Camp Katur, it was great fun and a really relaxing break.  I think the prices are really reasonable too.  We are hoping to return another time to try the different styles of accommodation.  The Safari Tent looks great for two families and has an inside living area.

The kids loved playing in the woods.

Camp Katur Glamping is on the Camp Hill Estate between Bedale, Masham, Thirsk and Ripon and there are loads of great days out in Yorkshire to take advantage of while you are there.  Finally if, like me, you are wondering, it is pronounced like ‘Camp Couture’.  Katur means ‘Happy’ in Icelandic, so Camp Katur becomes ‘Camp Happy’.
