William’s Den North Cave, East Yorkshire – Review

William’s Den North Cave, is a fabulous family attraction opened over the last couple of years in East Yorkshire. We visited recently and we loved it! There is a large outside adventure playground with lots of space between the equipment.  The setting is idyllic – beautiful green rolling hills form a relaxing backdrop.  They are very active in adding new things and are constantly improving.  They often have seasonal specials too like ice skating at Christmas.

Outdoor Adventure Playground

There are climbing frames, den building areas, swings, ziplines and more.

Scattered around, there are the most beautiful benches I have ever seen in this kind of setting, they are huge!  Crucially, there are so many of them that you won’t need to be fighting with the other parents for a seat, or skulking around till someone else leaves!

Lots of Picnic Tables

Just outside of the main buildings there is a large courtyard area with lots of picnic tables.  This spot overlooks the sandpit and is an ideal place to sit and watch younger children play.

The Den

Inside you will find lots more exciting play equipment from rope bridges and tunnels to slides and water play.  This will be ideal on a rainy day but for me the beautiful outdoor space is William’s Den’s crowning glory.

William’s Den Café

We visited the café while we are there, because, you know – food!  I was very impressed.  The café is light, airy and pretty.  There is an enclosed courtyard space with lots of outside toys to keep younger ones busy while you relax (as much as you can) over lunch.  Mine are older now, but this would have been heaven for me when they were small. (not a picture of the cafe – I just loved this

The food itself is impressive, locally sourced and quality ingredients.  It’s worth noting that you can visit the café without going into the Den itself.  It would make a fab place for a group of parents meeting up.

William’s Den Reviews– Menu

Anyway, on to what we ordered!  There is a wood fired pizza oven and so Mr Wonders and I both ordered pizza:

We both went for large pizzas, being suspicious that they might not turn out to be as large as we would like.  They really were though!  If it was just me and the kids then a large pizza and a side would be ideal (and very reasonable on the purse).

Master T opted for the chicken wrap which came with a choice of two sides.  He chose the chunky chips and the skinny fries.  The chunky chips were to-die-for and when we return I’ll definitely be having some of my own!

Fish Finger Sandwich

Miss H went for ‘the best fish finger sandwich in the world’.  The bread was a bit chunky for her, but she had more than enough to keep her happy eating the (homemade) fish fingers and double whammy of potatoes! (you could choose from lots of different sides – mine chose the double whammy!)

There is also a selection of cakes in the café.

Homemade Ice cream

Afterwards we sampled the ice cream.  It’s made on the premises and the ingredients sourced locally (I think Driffield?).  More importantly, it was delicious!  Much better quality than I was expecting (and I do love my ice cream), so worth a mid afternoon treat!
